Our goal at Presidential Care Givers is to provide our residents with compassionate care in a family home environment that is hopefully similar to the home our residents have lived in for most of their lives. We are a welcome alternative to large institutionalized nursing homes or large assisted living facilities. We provide personalized companionship in a warm and friendly home. We also offer a much more stimulating environment for our residents by encouraging resident hobbies such as gardening, arts and crafts, cooking, music and community game nights. We also provide many other stimulating activities designed to “lift the spirits” and provide happiness to our residents.
Exercise is an important part of the routine at Presidential Care Givers that is designed to keep our residents both mentally and physically lifted. 2138 Roosevelt, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 was designed with a physical therapy/ workout room and we encourage all of our residents that are physically able, to use the equipment. We do not want our residents watching TV all day long. We schedule a daily exercise and physical therapy session and encourage all of our residents to participate.
Fun and Happiness
Fun is part of our routine! Weekly activities are planned to promote social interaction and mental stimulation. We have a pool table, ping pong, card tables, darts, 100’s of puzzles, board games and a library of books and music that we are currently stocking. There is even a “Festive Tike Bar” that is available for weekend social events such as movie night and casino night.
Family and Guest visitation is also encouraged during specified visiting hours. There are many places nearby that are nice places to take “Mom or Dad” on an outing such as the indoor ice cream store across the street or how about a football game at Eastern Michigan University which is only a block away! Or maybe you just want to stay with “Mom or Dad” at the house and sit on the front porch and watch the EMU Marching Band parade come right in front of the house during EMU home games. You can even sit outside on the deck during football season and catch the excitement by listening to the game coming from the stadium in the back yard!
Although this is a community based care initiative, the program boasts as a special feature the 24-hour contact availability of both a nurse and rehabilitative therapist. In this way the 24-hour direct care staff can complement the work of professionals in ensuring continuity of care. Since under normal circumstances, when Medicare reimbursed, rehabilitative services last 8 weeks or less and are rendered 2 to 3 times per week maximum, what a wonderful assurance to know even well after these periods exhaust themselves, the involvement of these professions continues to impact the quality of care delivered.
Population Specific Design
From our wide doors (36”) to our bathing facilities this program’s physical plant was developed with the needs of physically limited people in mind. This allows for safe and dignified interaction and personal care while helping to minimize or prevent the possibility of certain kinds of injury. Exterior ramps add to fire safety and overall functionality with all services initially available on the home’s main floor.
